COP28 UAE's Progress

At COP28 in the United Arab Emirates, which took place from 30 November to 13 December 2023, nearly 200 nations discussed crucial measures to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, as set out at COP21 in Paris in 2015. The conference was seen as particularly important, as prior to the final agreement, warnings indicated that the current trajectory was leading to 2.7°C of warming by 2100, exceeding the targets of the Paris Agreement.

World leaders such as UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron and others took part in the discussions. The urgency of immediate action was underlined, as the world faced a "rapidly shrinking window of opportunity" to meet the 1.5°C limit. Key points of the negotiations included increased commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, funding for developing countries to cope with climate impacts, and transparent monitoring mechanisms to ensure accountability for the commitments made.

The final agreement at COP28 aimed to step up global efforts to combat climate change and mobilise significant resources to meet global climate targets.

And we obviously give our full support to the United Arab Emirates, which has a historic responsibility to make this COP 28 a success. I am sure that our Emirati friends will succeed".
