2024RS14 - Intermodal and Business Development Manager

The Role:

Within the Commercial Department of UAE Agency Office, you oversee coordinating and developing the intermodal activity in your scope. Also, in charge of supporting the sale of non-maritime products by Sales. Act as the interface between sales teams and HO/RO departments related to eCommerce, Intermodal & Value-Added Services. You should be proactive to ensure sales are following the strategy established by the Sales Director.

Task & Responsibilities:

Intermodal:

  • Reporting to the Cluster Chief Commercial Officer, you animate the network of agencies for all interland strategic thinking and operations. As such, you participate in the definition of the objectives of the year for TEU's and Carrier Haulage and ensure compliance with these objectives.
  • Responsible for leading complex commercial projects in an environment with multiple stakeholders, your main objective is to improve and grow the organization's market position, ease operational & logistics pain points and promote financial growth. You finally become a business facilitator and a value creator for your peers and the client’s customer base.
  • You are accountable for the success of the business development projects and you are the main point of contact for the Cluster management as well as principal’s intermodal contacts.
  • You are responsible for ensuring alignment between all stakeholders, externally as well as internally. Interacting with local authorities and service providers is key to allow progress of files: your communication skills make the difference.
  • You participate in identifying, screening, evaluating and developing business development projects and ensuring an ongoing and robust pipeline of new opportunities.
  • Develop recommendations for attractiveness of investments and recommendations on business plan and budget.
  • Elaboration of business plans in relation with Cluster agencies relevant departments (Logistics, Intermodal, Lines etc.)
  • Monitor and identify any threats to projects due to lack of progress with effective and timely remedial actions
  • Ensure that economic and business assessments are made and continuously followed up on to ensure business case viability.
  • Developing a good regional knowledge of market conditions, players and the market environment.

Non-Maritime Products

  • Contribute to non-maritime sales as an expert of these products.
  • Acts as an Expert on Non-Maritime products and ensures that Outside and Inside Sales are fully capable of selling non-maritime products (training, documentation, etc.)
  • Support on commercial market opportunities identified by Outside & Inside Sales
  • Conduct commercial visits and calls in coordination with Outside & Inside Sales to support on non-maritime negotiations
  • Coordinate between HO/RO and Sales Offices on Non-Maritime products (e-commerce, VAS, intermodal, CEVA…) and report issues related to pricing & execution
  • Drive strategy and sales of non-maritime products

Knowledge, work experience, skills & competencies

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, marketing, finance, economics or related field.
  • Minimum 5 + Years of experience, preferably in the liner shipping, freight forwarding, or logistics industry handling logistics, intermodal, and / or transportation.
  • Proven experience in market analysis and research.
  • Ability to persuade and influence others on the best approach to take.
  • Be familiar and constantly up to date with the latest global maritime trade developments, changing market environments and competitors updates.
  • Experience in preparation of annual budgets and forecasts for future lifting volumes
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodology, tools & techniques.
  • Familiar with MS Outlook, MS Project or other project and time management software applications.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, follow up, decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict-management and time-management skills.
  • Resourceful and proactive in gathering information and sharing ideas.
  • Ability to work in an international environment,, including travelling abroad on assignments.
  • Cultural awareness, sensitivity to culture and customs.
  • Effective communication skills (Ability to articulate various business scenarios with customers, senior business leaders & middle management) Demonstration of professional demeanor, positive attitude, and ability to manage stress through challenging situations.
  • Must be able to prioritize work effectively and manage time efficiently.
