Emirates Foundation named ‘NGO of the Year’ at CCI France UAE Gala Dinner

Emirates Foundation was awarded the title of NGO of the Year’ by CCI France UAE.

Emirates Foundation was awarded the title of NGO of the Year’ by CCI France UAE for the remarkable achievements of ne’ma, the National Food Loss and Waste initiative.

ne’ma has been truly setting an example and ‘walking the talk’ towards activating the participation of key stakeholders across the supply chain to take action to reduce food waste with the aim of meeting the national goal of reducing food loss and waste by 50% by 2030.

The recognition came at a special Gala Dinner held by CCI France UAE for all its member UAE French corporates at Emirates Palace Hotel in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence; Nicolas Niemtchinow, Ambassador of the French Republic to the UAE and 800 invitees.

CCI France UAE collaborated with ne’ma and Reloop to make this a zero waste dinner event. Ne’ma implemented its Zero food Waste to landfill model which closes the loop creating a circular economy by re-directing surplus or food waste away from landfill. The dinner was served as a 3-course meal which demonstrated a lower waste per dinner versus the buffet setting.

As a result of the Gala Dinner, 340kg of food waste was collected and diverted from landfill, preventing 850kg of greenhouse gas emission. The food waste collected was later turned into 70kg of compost and detoured back to nature as fertilizer, covering more than 10 sqm of farmland.

 The event laid a great opportunity to raise awareness during the Gala Dinner around food waste utilizing ne’ma messages.

There has been a strong collaboration in the run up to this year’s COP28 in the UAE between the ne’ma team and CCI France UAE as the two countries exchange best practices for preventing food waste.

In November 2022, ne’ma also delivered an awareness session about the ne’ma initiative to the CCI France UAE’s Women Empowerment Program.
